Assessment can provide explanation, access to support and a clearer account of lifelong difficulties. It can also be expensive, slow and emotionally demanding. The aim is not to confirm a preferred label at any cost, but to understand which explanation best fits the evidence and what support is likely to help.
Screening questionnaires and provider directories can help you prepare for a clinical conversation, but they are not substitutes for a full assessment. Eligibility, waiting times, prices, professional standards and follow-up arrangements can change, so verify current information directly with your GP, NHS service or chosen provider.

ADHD & Autism Assessment Resources
Providers, referral routes, screening resources and NHS information brought together in one practical guide.
01
Are you diagnosis-curious?
Screen yourself for free using the resources below. Screening is not the same as diagnosis; discuss results and concerns with an appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

Three routes to an adult ADHD or autism assessment in the UK
Choose the assessment route that matches your circumstances, location and funding options.
Route 1
Privately
Arrange and fund an assessment directly with a private provider. Before paying, ask who will assess you, what standards apply, what the report includes and how follow-up works.
Route 2
NHS local referral pathway
Ask your GP about the local NHS referral pathway. Referral rules, eligibility and waiting times vary by area.
Route 3 · England only
Right to Choose
Ask your GP about Right to Choose where it applies. The provider must be delivering the relevant NHS service in England.

Adult ADHD and autism screening tools
These tools can inform a clinical conversation but do not provide a diagnosis on their own.
Who can diagnose ADHD?
Current NICE guidance states that ADHD should only be diagnosed by a specialist psychiatrist, paediatrician or another appropriately qualified healthcare professional with training and expertise in ADHD.

Referral information for ADHD & autism
Below are UK assessment services presented as a practical directory. Service details change, so confirm current eligibility, clinicians, regulatory status, prices, waiting times, prescribing arrangements and follow-up directly with each provider.
Directory, not endorsement.
Inclusion does not imply endorsement or guarantee that a service is appropriate for a particular person. Confirm clinical standards and whether an NHS body or GP will accept a private report or shared-care request before proceeding.
