Art Films & Videos

69 influential and streamable videos • grouped by era/type • continuous numbering. Curated August 2026

Introduction

Selection principle: historical importance + quality + source authority + cultural influence + audience reach. ★ Essential viewing. Links use clean YouTube URLs; availability can change over time.

Art has never been a fixed category. Across history it has moved from cave walls, temples and devotional images to Renaissance painting, modern abstraction, readymades, performance, street intervention, digital code, blockchain-based works and artificial intelligence. This library follows that evolution through 69 carefully selected YouTube videos, combining landmark documentaries with high-quality museum, academic and artist-led material.

The collection is organised chronologically and by type of practice, but the numbering runs continuously from 1 to 69 across every section. It can therefore be used either as a guided journey through art history or as a compact reference index. Selection favours historical importance, quality, source authority, cultural influence, watchability and audience reach.

  • Videos marked ★ are Essential Viewing. Popularity is not the sole criterion: some museum and artist films have smaller audiences but are more valuable primary sources. The final sections deliberately extend beyond traditional art history into Banksy and street art, art-market economics, NFTs and crypto art, generative systems, robotics and AI — reflecting the continuing expansion of what an artwork, an artist and artistic authorship can mean.
